The Silleteros and the Feria de las Flores

At the heart of Antioquian culture lies the cherished Silletero tradition, a living heritage recently declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
Silleteros are a revered group of flower farmers from the surrounding hills of Medellin, primarily Santa Elena, who meticulously cultivate and arrange elaborate floral displays known as 'silletas'. These incredible masterpieces, often weighing over 100 pounds, range from intricate artistic designs to those showcasing the region's agricultural bounty. The tradition culminates annually in the iconic Medellin Flower Festival (Feria de las Flores 2025), where hundreds of Silleteros proudly parade their silletas on their backs, symbolizing their deep connection to the land, their artistry, and the vibrant spirit of Colombia.
The main event of the Feria de las Flores 2025 is the "Desfile de Silleteros". During the parade you'll get to see 500+ Silleteros showing off their flower displays as well as marching bands, salsa and dance troups etc. The parade is held on the last day of the festival 10 August and attended by tens of thousands of spectators. Palco seating (bleachers) allow you to see the parade from elevated viewing platforms which provide protection from the sun and the rain. You have access to the conveniences of bathroom facilities as well as food & drink options.
The Medellin Flower Farm tour allows you to go behind the public facade of the festival and see where the Silleteros live and make their onate silletas.
